I attend to the unique circumstances of each client and develop a therapeutic approach that draws on established techniques suited to the age, problems, and goals of the individual.
In individual psychotherapy, I draw on a range of treatment strategies including cognitive behavioral therapy, self-relations therapy, guided imagery, supportive counseling, and relaxation techniques and mindfulness training. Therapy is meant to help a person adapt to challenging life circumstances. Practical problems call for an approach that is both practical and goal-oriented.
Treatment strategies suitable for adults may not prove effective with children. I have extensive training in the modality called Play Therapy, a specialized means of diagnosis and treatment that can be especially effective and appealing to children. Social skills training often proves helpful for children whose difficulties center on peer relations.
I recognize that psychotherapy is first and foremost an interpersonal process. Technical expertise is most healing when the therapeutic relationship is shaped by sensitivity and concern.
